Nokia Siemens Networks Wins Uzbek Network Upgrade Contract

­Uzbekistan based mobile network operator, UCell has signed a contract with Nokia Siemens Networks to expand its core network capacity.

Under the agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks  install mobile softswitching and packet core network technology, transport equipment, base station controllers, home location registers and media gateways.

Nokia Siemens Networks will also extend UCell's text message and multimedia message centers, provide a voice and video mail solution and extend device management and service provisioning capability. Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide implementation as well as consulting and systems integration services for the network.

No financial details were provided.

UCell is the trading name for Coscom, and according to figures from the Mobile World subscriber tracker, the operator had a shade under 4 million subscribers at the end of June.

Coscom is majority-owned by TeliaSonera.
