ZTE Wins Indian GSM Network Contract
China's ZTE says that it has signed a 5-year supply contract with India's Unitech Wireless for GSM systems and core network equipment across the circles of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana.
Unitech Wireless, a joint venture between Norway's Telenor Group and Unitech Group of India, holds the license to provide mobile phone services across all 22-telecom circles in India. The company is planning to roll-out services in select circles by the end of 2009 under the brand name Uninor.
"We're glad to be selected by Unitech Wireless to establish and manage their GSM infrastructure in India," said Dr. D. K. Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, ZTE Telecom India Pvt Ltd. "This agreement not only marks our GSM network contract from a global telecom operator, but also provides us with an opportunity to establish and manage GSM networks in metros and large cities. We are confident that opportunities like these will serve to further accelerate our growth momentum and expand our business footprint in the fastest growing telecom market in the world," continued Dr. Ghosh.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Nokia Siemens Networks recently won a similar contract covering six circles - Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Both contracts include network management as well as installation.
