Scientists Develop Hydrogen Based Phone Charger
Researchers at Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute say that they have developed a hydrogen-powered mobile phone charger. They say that the device can recharge a conventional mobile phone battery in two hours.
They aim to commercialise the development by 2012.
"Hydrogen is a recyclable material," said Tsau Fanghei, a researcher at the institute. "The device is energy-efficient and will help protect the environment. We will continue to improve the invention. We hope the hydrogen-powered device can replace current cell phone recharge systems in 2012."
The charger will be key to the Taiwan government's endeavour of carving out a space for itself in future energy generation, Yeh Hui-ching, director of the economics ministry's Bureau of Energy told AFP news agency.
