Vodafone Appoints a Director of Mobile Payments
Vodafone Group has announced the appointment of a Director of Mobile Payments. The company is tapping Cenk Serdar, formerly the Chief VAS Officer of Turkcell where he worked on a wide range of new business opportunities including Mobile Internet and Mobile Messaging, as well as new services such as Mobile Payments, Mobile Marketing and Mobile Signature.
"Cenk Serdar is a highly driven, experienced individual who understands the importance of extending money transfer services across our footprint. He brings new insights to the team and I am delighted to welcome him to the Group," said Tim Harrabin, Central Europe & Africa Regional Development Director.
Having begun his professional career as a lecturer at Wharton, Mr Serdar worked for Superonline and then the Dogan Group of companies. He went on to hold managerial roles at Dogus Group between 1999 and 2004, ultimately serving as the Chief Officer responsible for Marketing and Sales at Dogus Otomotive.
Serdar will work on expanding the M-PESA mobile banking services to new countries. Launched in 2007, M-PESA now boasts over 7 million customers in Kenya and is also widely available in Tanzania and Afghanistan.
