Iusacell Selects Level 3 for IP Traffic to the USA

Mexico's Grupo Iusacell has contracted with Level 3 Communications to provide high-speed Internet Protocol (IP) services. The Level 3 network will carry telecommunications traffic delivered to the U.S. from Iusacell in Mexico.

"With a network footprint that spans the U.S. and Europe, Level 3 is the right partner to support our demands for global network connectivity," said Eduardo Kuri, COO of Iusacell. "The recent expansion of the Level 3 network in south Texas offers a key portal for communications traffic across the region."

Under the terms of the three-year agreement, Level 3 will provide high-speed IP services for Iusacell to transport data services within the U.S. via the Level 3 network gateway in south Texas. These services capitalize on the reach and scale of the Level 3 network to extend connectivity for more than 4 million Iusacell customers.

"Driven by ongoing growth in wireless and data services, Latin America represents a strong market opportunity for Level 3," said Andrew Crouch, president of Level 3's Wholesale Markets Group. "Level 3 is pleased to support Iusacell - Mexico's first 3G operator - as they continue to expand their business and deliver next generation services."
