India's BSNL to Float Another WiMAX Tender
India's state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is reported to be planning a new WiMAX infrastructure tender worth around Rs 1,500-crore (US$320 million) for 7,000 base stations, to connect Common Service Centres (CSC) across the country.
The move comes after the company cancelled a previous WiMAX tender following allegations of collusion between several of the bidders.
Both BSNL and MTNL were granted WiMAX licenses as part of the delayed 3G license tender. Once the 3G license auction is finally settled, a number of WiMAX licenses will also be sold off, with the two state controlled firms being required to pay a fee equivalent to the private bidders.
