Dell Announces Netbook Deal with China Mobile
Dell has announced a deal with China Mobile - although not for smartphones as has been widely expected. Under the terms of the newly announced agreement, China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) is to distribute Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks - with built-in support for China Mobile's 3G network.
The Inspiron Mini 10 will retail with prices starting at RMB3, 880 (US$575) - and will work with the home-grown TD-SCDMA network.
According to a 2008 CNNIC Internet Survey Report, China was found to lead the world in Internet access, with 298 million people connecting online. In a year - 2007 to 2008 - the same report found a nearly 42 percent increase in new online users at 88 million people. US-based analyst firm International Data Corporation forecasts mini notebook growth in China to grow 276 percent by 2009.
CMCC is the state owned parent company to Hong Kong listed subsidiary, China Mobile Ltd.
