Smartphone Vendor - Palm Cutting Jobs

Struggling smartphone manufacturer, Palm is to cut more jobs the company has confirmed. The company is seeking "profitability and long-term growth, resulting in company reductions in the U.S. and internationally,".

Spokeswoman Lynn Fox said the layoffs began this week, but she declined to say how many jobs would be lost.

The most recent statement from the company said that it had around 1,050 staff at the end of May.

Palm Chief Financial Officer Andy Brown told analysts during a conference call in September, that he expects revenue to fall sequentially in the normally strong fiscal second quarter revenue. The hiring of former Apple executive Jon Rubinstein and the success of the Centro have done much to quell critics who claim that Palm had lost its creative touch, but the firm has been forced to rely on using rival OS from Microsoft for its latest devices.

The company has been working on a new OS which the company still expects to launch before the end of this year - with a new "device" due later next year.
